Either in house or with our partners at Enhabit and The Green Building Store, we can offer a full low-energy consultancy service…

SAP Calculations & EPCs

We have many years of experience in producing SAP Calculations and EPCs and can offer these services in-house. All new homes require a set of SAP Calculations and an EPC and the requirements can be very complex and confusing especially if you are new to house building. We can guide you through this process and provide you with the documents you need to satisfy Building Control. Please see our FAQs below or contact us for a quote.

What are SAP Calculations?

SAP stands for Standard Assessment Procedure. The SAP Calculations are sometimes referred to as an ‘Energy Assessment’. This is how we determine the energy efficiency of a building and how we demonstrate it’s compliance with building regulations. All buildings have to meet a target emission rate (TER) in kilogrammes of CO2 per year and a target fabric efficiency rate (TFEE) in kilowatt hours per year. The emission rate is based on how the building is powered and heated, the fabric efficiency rate is based on how the building is constructed and the insulative properties of the walls, floors, roofs, doors and windows.

What is an EPC?

EPC stands for Energy Performance Certificate. By using the information we have compiled for the SAP Calculations we can generate an EPC for new buildings. By law, the EPC must be made available to a prospective purchaser or tenant to allow them to determine how energy efficient it is and how it compares to other properties.

Why do I need SAP Calculations & EPCs?

You will need to provide both these documents to building control to demonstrate compliance with Part L of the building regulations. Usually they will ask for ‘Design SAPs’ and a ‘Predicted EPC’ before construction commences and an ‘As Built’ version of both on completion. It’s vital that you consult with a SAP Assessor at the design stage or you could find yourself having to make very expensive alterations to a completed building to be able to get it signed off.

What do I need to do?

In order for us to prepare your SAP Assessment we will need your architect’s drawings and specification. The more information you can provide the quicker and easier the process will be. We can advise on any specifications that you may need assistance in choosing. Please contact us and we can discuss your requirements.

SBEM Calculations

Whereas SAP Calculations are for domestic buildings, SBEM Calculations are for commercial buildings. They can also be required in certain domestic situations, for example heated communal areas in blocks of flats. We can help and advise with these, please contact us for more information.

Passivhaus

We have been heavily involved with Passivhaus design and consultancy for over ten years. We are certified Passivhaus testers and fully understand the very unique requirements of this form of construction. We would be very happy to discuss your Passivhaus project with you, please contact us.

Heat Pumps

With our partners at Enhabit we can offer the design, supply, installation and MCS Commissioning of a heat pump system for your property. Installing a heat pump can be a difficult move to make and you may have lots of questions about how it will work and perform best. We carry out careful room by room design to make sure the heat pump will work optimally with the underfloor heating, radiators or other heat emitters in the property. Contact us to learn more.

Solar PV & Solar Thermal

Our partners at Enhabit have been designing, supplying and installing solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal systems for over 5 years in London and surrounds. A typical domestic PV system provides around 50% of your electricity needs and can protect you against rising energy bills as well as increasing the value of your home. PV and solar thermal systems are relatively easy to install (or retrofit on existing homes) and require little maintenance. You can now team a PV system with a battery to give you even greater energy bill savings. Contact us to discuss your project.
